Birchgrove Feline Assistance

We are a registered charity cat rescue and shelter located in Dodges Ferry, Southern Tasmania, dedicated to supporting and caring for every homeless cat and kitten that we have the capacity to help. Our goal is to find loving forever homes for felines in need. In addition to our rehoming efforts, we actively participate in educating the public about responsible cat ownership and containment practices, ensuring the wellbeing of both cats and the local wildlife. As a volunteer-run organisation, we depend on the generosity of our community through support, adoptions, and donations.

Key initiatives

No Mum Left Behind

It is common for kittens to be adopted quickly, while the mother cat gets overlooked. That's why we have our 'No Mum Left Behind' program. By adopting a kitten, you also have the option of adopting its mother - and we will waive the adoption fee for the mum. This helps to ensure that both cats get a chance at a loving forever home.

Last Litter

We are making a difference in the cat overpopulation problem in greater Hobart. If you surrender a litter of kittens to us, we will pay to have the mother and father cat desexed. By taking this step, we can prevent future homeless cats and ensure a better future for cat rescue in Tasmania.

We pride ourselves on saying yes. We say yes to the big jobs, the messy jobs, the hard jobs and the jobs we know are going to cost us a lot of money in vet bills. Please make a tax-deductible donation to help us keep being able to say yes.

Pet Food Pantry

Launched in April 2024 in collaboration with the Sorell Community Network, this initiative aims to support pet owners facing financial hardship. Too many families are forced to consider giving up their pets because they can't afford pet food. Our program aims to change that, keeping pets and their people together.

If you’d like to support our Pet Food Pantry, you can donate here.
